Study Skills for Success in High School and Beyond
Teacher: Pam Stickler
​Tuesdays 9:30 - 10:30 
$385 for one semester course
*There is an annual student fee for all students taking classes at Pacific Coast Learning Center. Some charter schools allow for this fee to be added to the cost of classes rather than being paid out-of-pocket by parents. If your charters agrees, you may add the cost of the student fee to your first PO. 

Study Skills
Writtenburg Door
In this semester class, students will learn a multitude of skills to help them take control of their studying and class workload so that they can be more successful
students. Setting goals and priorities, learning to organize workloads and time, developing strategies for reading textbooks, writing papers, taking more effective
notes, and how to study more efficiently for tests will be the focus of this class. Students will be guided to use these skills with the courses they are taking this
semester and through in-class exercises and practice. This class can also help students with poor organizational skills.
Grading: Students will be graded on a cumulative score of class participation & homework

Unit 1 Executive Functioning Overview
● Planning, Organization, Time Management, Task Initiation, Working
Memory, Metacognition, Self-Control, Attention, Flexibility, & Perseverance,
-Self reflect on strengths and weaknesses
-Self reflect on when I use each of these

Unit 2 Organization & Planning
● Take Charge of Your Schedule: how to prioritize (in-class activity)
● Organize Your Time: how to overcome “I don’t know where to start or how to get it all done”
● Organize Your Notebook(s)

Unit 3 Learning Styles & Multiple Intelligences
● VAK Learning Styles: discover my dominant learning style & strategies to help me study
● Multiple Intelligences: how I am smart, my dominant intelligence
