CHILD DEVELOPMENT

CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Thursdays 1:00 - 2:30
​Cost: $385 per semester*
*There is an annual student fee for all students taking classes at Pacific Coast Learning Center. Some charter schools allow for this fee to be added to the cost of classes rather than being paid out-of-pocket by parents. If your charters agrees, you may add the cost of the student fee to your first PO.

This is a one-year course that introduces students to the history, philosophy, and major theories of child growth and development.  Students will study the physical, emotional, and cognitive aspects of development from conception to early adolescence.  Instruction includes the biological, hereditary, and environmental influences on development, together with methods of supporting and promoting optimum healthy growth.

Unit 1: Foundations of Human Development  
Unit 2: How and Why People Develop and Learn  
Unit 3: Family Trends Today  
Ch.4: Pregnancy and Birth
Semester 2
Unit 5: Infancy:  Newborn to Age 1  
Unit 6: Toddlerhood:  Ages 1- 2  
Unit 7: Early Childhood:  Ages 3 - 5  
Unit 8: Middle Childhood:  Ages 6- 10
Unit 9: Adolescence: Ages 11-19

Methods of InstructionLecture, Demonstration, Project-Based Learning (online via google docs), Group Work (online), Instructional DVD’s, Reading, Observations, etc. Some Ted-ed videos, and Infographics.
 
Assessment
Discussions, Quizzes, Tests, Labs,  Key Assignments, Participation, Classwork, Projects, Oral Presentations, Kahoot and other educational games, Quizlets, Journal/Notebook entries and Google Slide presentations.
