This engaging and dynamic course covers a comprehensive overview of the  history, culture, geography, politics, and religions of ancient civilizations. The time period spans from approximately 8000 BC to 500 AD.  Studies begin with ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, and Kush and move on to the ancient civilizations of India and China. Next, we learn about the geography, history, political systems, and culture of ancient Greece and conclude with the Roman Empire. Students  develop higher levels of critical thinking by considering why civilizations developed where and when they did and the reasons they declined. Students analyze interactions among the various cultures, while emphasizing their enduring contributions. Connections will be made between the contemporary and ancient worlds that will build a foundation for high-school level social studies and beyond.
