Meet the Writtenburg Door Team

Hi, I’m Nancy Kaser. I’m an English and history nerd, author, coffee enthusiast, conference speaker, plant lady, and dog lover. I homeschooled my own tribe of three kids for 20 years and graduated them all from home. When I'm not teaching or being a mom or grandma, I help my husband run a non-profit organization that allows kids trapped in third-world poverty to be fed, educated, and have a hope for their future.
I love literature and history and think every homeschooled student should too! I received my BA in English Literature from Cal State Fullerton, and was a classroom middle school English teacher before I started homeschooling my own children.
Being a veteran homeschooling mom myself, I know not all parents feel prepared to teach their kids all subjects. I started The Writtenburg Door because I want to equip homeschooling families to confidently educate their children at home all the way through high school. My goal is to support parents by offering courses that cause students to understand how different people see the world and how they can communicate their own ideas from an educated, well-written perspective.

I’m Janiene Bishop. I have been on this homeschooling journey with my husband since my oldest was in kindergarten. In my limited spare time, I enjoy crafting and modern calligraphy, as well as nature hiking and wild flower collecting. You might run into my little Bishop tribe on a trail, nature journals in hand, studying the wonders of creation together. When I'm not with my family, I teach pallet painting classes and also have a small boutique business where I sell my pallet work, always with a cup of coffee in my hand. Coffee is more precious to me than oxygen.
My family has been part of the Writtenburg Door program since it began, and I am thrilled to be able to teach classes at PCLC. Teaching and inspiring my three children through literature, writing, history, and art has been an absolute delight, and I am excited to help parents lay a foundation of learning for their own students.

Hi, I’m Chris MacLeith. I am a wife, a mother, a homeschooler, an attorney, a classic extrovert, and can play board games all day! I love the power of words and am passionate about teaching young people to become eloquent communicators. I have two teenage daughters and homeschooling them has been one of the greatest joys of my life. A cup of coffee and good conversation makes me smile. I believe every child can love learning and accomplish great things. I am privileged and honored to be a part of The Writtenburg Door and to have the opportunity to touch the lives of children through literature, writing, and government.

I’m Brian Payne, and I have a passion for educating young people about personal finance and economics. I am a professional financial advisor with more than 20 years of experience in the financial world. As part of the National Financial Literacy Campaign, I teach weekly financial workshops on a year-round basis to adults, and I am thrilled to help high school students go into their adult lives with a clear understanding of economics and personal finance. My wife and I have three children – one in high school, one in junior high, and one in elementary school.

Hi, I'm Staci Ballou. I'm slowly morphing my house into a jungle with all of my plants, and I just had a library built in the backyard to store all of my books. I was homeschooled through the elementary grades, and I am currently in year nine of homeschooling my own two daughters. I love the power of a good book almost as much as I love the power of words themselves. In my spare time, I create travel itineraries and I think all road trips should begin in the dark. I gravitate toward art, National Parks, good conversation, and the ocean. I love being Mrs. Kaser's administrator and contributing to an environment full of good words and excellent education.
