Elementary History
3rd - 5th grade

Get ready for an exciting journey through time! In this course, we’ll explore the stories of the first people in America, daring explorers, and the brave settlers who helped shape the nation. From the American Revolution to westward expansion, we’ll uncover the big moments that built the U.S. (with a few fun surprises along the way!). Plus, we’ll become geography wizards, learning all about the states, rivers, and mountains that make America unique!

Elementary History

From Native cultures to fearless explorers and revolutionary heroes, we’ll discover how the U.S. came to be. Along the way, we’ll also become geography pros, exploring states, rivers, and mountains!

Unit 1

Pre-Columbian Settlements

  • Pre-Columbian settlements, including the cliff dwellers and pueblo people of the desert Southwest, the American Indians of the Pacific Northwest, the nomadic nations of the Great Plains, and the woodland peoples east of the Mississippi River. 

 

Unit 2

Early Explorers of the Americas

  • Students trace the routes of early explorers and describe the early explorations of the Americas.

 

Unit 3

Early Settlers

  • Students describe the cooperation and conflict that existed among the American Indians and between the Indian nations and the new settlers. 

 

Unit 4

Colonial Era

  • Students understand the political, religious, social, and economic institutions that evolved in the colonial era. 

 

Unit 5

American Revolution

  • Students explain the causes, course, and consequences of the American Revolution. 

 

Unit 6

US Constitution & Founding of the American Republic

  • Students describe the people and events associated with the development of the U.S. * Constitution and analyze the Constitution’s significance as the foundation of the American republic. 

 

Unit 7

Colonization, Immigration, Settlements in America through the mid-1800s

  • Students trace the colonization, immigration, and settlement patterns of the American people from 1789 to the mid-1800s, with emphasis on the role of economic incentives, effects of the physical and political geography, and transportation systems. 

 

Unit 8

US Geography

  • Students know the location of the current 50 states and the names of their capitals. Students know the regions of the US, major rivers, mountain ranges, the Great Plains, and the oceans.
